Joel always does amazing work, but this is exceptional stuff even among his fantastic catalog.

No word on a release date, but I know that the band is already at work on recording the album. Drum and guitar tracks are laid down for a handful of songs, and work continues apace on it. Right now it looks like it will be a Friction release, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.
